Background :

Association for Medical Education (AME), Bangladesh is a body medical educationists which encompasses teachers of different undergraduate and post-graduate medical, dental, nursing, medical technology and allied health science institutes of Bangladesh. It was established in 1997. AME, Bangladesh has a very good past history since 1997 conducting two Conferences (1998, 2000) under the leadership of - Prof. M Muzaherul Huq, Founder President,  AME, Bangladesh

Revitalization of AME, Bangladesh was started Since 2008 Under the Leadership of Prof. Md. Saleh Uddin, President, Association for Medical Education & Ex-Chairman, Dept. of Ophthalmology & Ex-Dean, Faculty of Surgery, BSMMU

This is a non- government, non profitable, non political, academic organization concerning with education and training of health professionals in Bangladesh. This organization is one of the vibrant regional organizations under the umbrella of South East Asia Regional Association for Medical Education (SEARAME) which is the regional organization of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Since SEARAME is the official partner of the World Health Organization (WHO), AME Bangladesh is working closely with WHO country office & Regional Office for South–East Asia (WHO/SEARO) to improve the standard of health professionals education in this country & in the South East Region.

Aim

To improve the quality and relevance of medical, dental, nursing & allied health professionals education in Bangladesh & SEAR countries at all levels- undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development in accordance with SEARAME & WFME.

General Objectives :

The general objective of AME Bangladesh is to strive for the highest scientific and ethical standards in medical education, taking initiatives with respect to new methods, new tools, and management of medical education. AME activities cover all stages of medical education, i.e. undergraduate & postgraduate medical & dental education, nursing education, allied health professional education and continuing medical education & continuing professionals development.

Specific Objectives :

1. Contribute to the setting of standards in medical education for good practice with regard to teaching and assessment, taking special note of the standards developed by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) & SEARME
2. Foster communication amongst medical educators and medical institutes in Bangladesh:

a)      conferences;

b)      scientific seminar

c)      journal and publications (BJME);

d)      faculty exchange

1. Help to evaluate suitable procedures for training students and medical teachers,
2. Collect factual evidence about objectives and programmes in medical education in order to help describe, distribute and document methods of medical education in Bangladesh & SEAR.
3. Encourage medical education research being conducted in Bangladesh & in countries of South-East Asia and give support to explore the research projects in health professionals education.
4. Promote collaboration with the other institutes, organization and regional associations for medical education under the umbrella of the SEARAME & World Federation for Medical Education;
5. Promote the collaboration and synergy in health system and medical education in the context of Bangladesh.
6. Promote the establishment or make available the information regarding quality assurance & accreditation system to different institutes/organizations.

Members :

Members of the Association will be drawn from different institutes, organizations of Bangladesh. Other bodies or individuals from countries of this SEAR this region may be admitted to membership at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

• Life Member – who is medical educationist
• Associate Member – who is not medical educationist
